On a Vision Of the Four Elements

Chris Crittenden

shattered and gassed,
boiling bits of clues
that struggle to warn,
a hubbub within four,

the quartet dissonant:
part blaze part Om,
part flood part wheel—

a grate that steams
what it devours back up,
the chewed indistinguishable
from the teeth,

the dwellings inseparable
from the vortex.
cities messy and flowing,

clothes swordfighting
like windy blades
in bustles that slant and strut,

wool of a turbid flock,
uncertain which screams
belong to sheep, and which
to bolts that split
over burning war.
